United Tribes of ND support wild horses in TRNP
MEDORA, N.D. (KFYR) – North Dakota’s Tribal Affiliation has voiced their place on Theodore Roosevelt Nationwide Park’s livestock plan.
United Tribes of North Dakota says they need wild horses and longhorns to remain.
The affiliation not too long ago shared a letter of help addressed to Park Superintendent Angie Richman for the preservation of park livestock.
MHA Nation Chairman Mark Fox says wild horses are necessary to northern plains tribes.
“Horses are a major a part of our tradition, we maintain them in excessive esteem and sacred to an important diploma and I believe they’re an necessary a part of this park,” mentioned Chairman Mark Fox, MHA Nation.
Fox says a few of them come from a lineage of horses as soon as bred by Sitting Bull.
“We predict that that’s a major factor in our historical past and the northern plains and the historical past of the state of North Dakota and this space,” mentioned Fox.
However when requested if tribes may take a few of the park’s horses, he says they wouldn’t have the ability to accommodate it.
“We don’t suppose we now have the capability proper now to take any horses on so we’re advocating that the park takes care of the horses simply the identical as we do,” mentioned Fox.
The Nationwide Park Service is now reviewing feedback from the general public on what they need to do with park livestock.
Their web site states there will probably be one other alternative for public remark this spring or summer season.
