WEST FARGO — Special Olympics North Dakota is in desperate need of volunteers for the track portion of their 2023 Summer Games this Sunday, June 11, at West Fargo High School.

Special Olympics North Dakota CEO Nancy Hanson told WDAY News they currently have roughly 25% of the volunteers they need. They’re hoping for at least 50 to 70 more volunteers, but need far more.

Hanson said they need people to help with a wide variety of things, from putting names on trophies to escorting the athletes.

Hanson said they’ll also accept walk-in volunteers the day of the event. She said helping out requires no training, and is more rewarding than some may think.

“You come and you see the joy that our athletes have when they compete, and truly they have so much athletic talent that people don’t even know about,” Hanson said.
