Recap of the results of the North Dakota governor’s race
BISMARCK, N.D. (KFYR) – Tuesday night was a major victory for Congressman Kelly Armstrong. His race was called just a little after 8:20 p.m. by the Associated Press.
The energy was high in Gateway to Science as results came in. When the first wave came out at 8 p.m., Armstrong already had a commanding lead over his opponent Tammy Miller. Armstrong then took the stage to address his supporters. We spoke to him shortly after his victory speech to discuss how he was feeling about the results.
“It’s great to be in a room with so many of our supporters and doing all this, but this is the first step and we are going to win in November and then we are going to get to work on making life better for as many North Dakotans as possible,” said Armstrong.
Armstrong said now that he is on his way to the general election, he will be sitting down with his team to plan out their political strategy going forward.
“Also planning on meeting with legislators, city commissioners, county commissioners and start putting an agenda together,” said Armstrong.
Armstrong also had this to say about his opponent Tammy Miller.
“She got in the arena, she ran a good race, she’s done a great job under Governor Burgum. Politics is a tough business and anybody that’s willing to step out there— She’s had a hugely successful career in North Dakota. Nobody’s entitled to these jobs, and I can’t think of … who wouldn’t want to run against somebody that can do the job if you lost. So it’s a race I won, I’m happy, it was fun to run against her,” said Armstrong.
Miller released the following statement congratulating Armstrong on his victory: “I want to congratulate Congressman Armstrong on his hard-fought campaign and victory. Throughout this campaign, I loved traveling our state, meeting with voters and listening to their suggestions and concerns. We are incredibly grateful to the thousands of supporters and grassroots conservatives who put their faith in us. I intend to run through the tape as Lt. Governor, continuing to do everything I can to help this great state thrive. Serving our state has been the honor of a lifetime and I continue to believe that North Dakota’s best days are ahead of us. I’m endorsing Congressman Armstrong and encourage my supporters to get behind his campaign this fall.”
If you recall, Congressman Armstrong launched his run for governor after Governor Burgum said he would not be seeking a third term. Governor Burgum also took to his Twitter page to congratulate Kelly Armstrong on his victory.
Congratulations to Kelly Armstrong and Julie Fedorchak on their hard fought primary victories! Competition is great for the Republican Party and our state is better for it.
Spoke with both Kelly and Julie tonight and we can count on them to stand with President Trump and…
