MCKENZIE COUNTY, N.D. — Officials have released the name of a North Dakota man who died following a crash between a pickup and a UTV in McKenzie County southwest of Watford City on Wednesday, June 21, 2023.

Travis Gudmunsen, a 39-year-old man from Arnegard, North Dakota, died after he was thrown from his UTV following a crash just after 8 a.m.

Gudmunsen had been traveling south on 133rd Avenue Northwest in his Honda Pioneer UTV, according to a release from the North Dakota Highway Patrol, when he failed to yield at the intersection of County Road 30 and was struck by a Ford pickup truck.

The truck driver, 25-year old Trenton Coy from Sidney, Montana, had been driving east on County Road 30 when he T-boned the UTV. Coy was wearing a seat belt and was uninjured in the crash, the patrol said.

Our newsroom occasionally reports stories under a byline of “staff.” Often, the “staff” byline is used when rewriting basic news briefs that originate from official sources, such as a city press release about a road closure, and which require little or no reporting. At times, this byline is used when a news story includes numerous authors or when the story is formed by aggregating previously reported news from various sources. If outside sources are used, it is noted within the story.
