FARGO — South Dakota rode an efficient offense and a bend but don’t break defense to a 24-19 upset victory over No. 2-ranked North Dakota State during the Bison’s homecoming on Saturday before 18,342 fans at Gate City Bank Field at the Fargodome.
Behind the steady play of quarterback Aidan Bouman and two big pass plays, the Coyotes took a 21-3 lead into halftime.
In the second half, South Dakota’s defense didn’t allow the Bison any quick-strike scoring plays and its offense controlled the clock at critical times.
Overall, the Bison’s longest pass play was 22 yards and their longest running play was 20 yards.
Bouman was 10 of 12 for 168 yards and two touchdowns. The Coyotes did not commit a turnover.
“Ultimately it came down to us not beating ourselves,” Bouman said. “Doing everything we could to execute to the best of our ability and I think we did a good job of that today.”

Our newsroom occasionally reports stories under a byline of “staff.” Often, the “staff” byline is used when rewriting basic news briefs that originate from official sources, such as a city press release about a road closure, and which require little or no reporting. At times, this byline is used when a news story includes numerous authors or when the story is formed by aggregating previously reported news from various sources. If outside sources are used, it is noted within the story.
