North Dakota State University opens its first museum

FARGO, N.D. (Valley News Live) – It’s a new chapter for North Dakota State University as it opens its first museum. Showing a diverse collection of objects and artifacts that make the campus what it is today.

It took eight months and a $75,000 donation from the NDSU Foundation Impact Grant, in addition to countless hours of looking through 1.5 million artifacts to bring the concept of this museum into a reality.

“There’s so many people who are invested in this idea. Not the amount of hours. It’s about a whole bunch of people dreaming for the same thing,” said Anthony Faris, one of the gallery coordinators.

Graduate Audrey Schoenecker is one of the fellows who headed the project. For her, this was more than an assignment.

“I absolutely love museums. I love to contribute to this very historical thing to be honest with you. l and I’m all about creativity and potentiality.”

Across campus, you’ll find a number of portals. It allows one to see portions of NDSU’s museum and collections and it’s a different way to reach more people.

“We have different collections on campus that range from mammals to daylilies to art,” added Faris.

With topics of athletics, the arts, historical objects, and science-related items, there’s a little something for everyone.

“We are utilizing this idea of a collection to connect all those collections for teaching, for reading, for research.”

If looking at the exhibits isn’t enough, QR codes will help offer a more interactive experience.

Since the museum includes collections and spaces across campus, you can view them during normal business hours.
