North Dakota St. overcomes slow start to defeat Abilene Christian 51-31 in FCS Playoffs
FARGO, N.D. (Valley News Live) – The North Dakota St. Bison are on to the FCS Quarterfinals thanks to a 51-31 defeat over the Abilene Christian Wildcats Saturday in the second round.
NDSU overcame a difficult first quarter-plus, with the Bison trailing 17-3 early in the second, to come back and pull away.
North Dakota St. scored 31 unanswered points, starting with a Jackson Williams 100-plus yard kick return touchdown, to flip the score in their favor, and it was a double-digit lead the rest of the way.
Logan Kopp was one of the stars of the game, coming up with both a strip sack fumble recovery and a pick six in the second half.
Cam Miller also made some more history, with his go-ahead touchdown pass to RaJa Nelson in the final minute of the first half being his 704th career completion, giving him the most completions in program history.
Next up, the Bison will face the seven-seeded Mercer Bears in the FCS Quarterfinals, who knocked off Rhode Island 17-10 Saturday. This matchup will be either Friday or Saturday at a time to be announced.
