North Dakota presents plans, asking for bids for construction on new state park
BISMARCK, N.D. (KFGO) – The North Dakota Parks and Recreation Department is moving forward with the development of a new state park.
The Pembina Gorge State Recreation Area near the Canadian border in northeastern North Dakota will be the state’s 14th state park, and the first since Cross Ranch in 1989.
The Parks and Recreation Department says the project west of Walhalla is receiving $6 million from the state’s Strategic Investment and Improvements Fund approved by the 2023 state legislature and $2 million from a federal Land and Water Conservation Fund grant.
The park will feature about six cabins and over 50 RV sites with power and water hookups. There will also be a family-friendly restroom and shower facility as well as vault toilets throughout the campground.
The state is accepting construction bids for the project. Leaders hope to break ground in mid-May and for the project to be completed in two years.
