North Dakota Department of Agriculture celebrates Farm To School Month with a contest
FARGO — In celebration of Farm To School Month, the North Dakota Department of Agriculture is inviting the public to join in the Mountain Plains Crunch Off.
Teams from North Dakota will be competing against Colorado, Kansas, Montana, Nebraska, South Dakota and Wyoming.
The goal of the crunch off is to see which group can take the most bites out of different locally grown vegetables or fruits.
“Really help schools kind of open their doors towards local produce, but also to give an opportunity for some of our local producers to expand their ability to get into different markets,” said North Dakota Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring.
Interested groups will have to partner with a local producer to host their competition. A state Representative will be there to count the number of bites taken from each individual.
“It really identifies where we have a lot more of our local producers that are involved in this type of activity that need a little more support,” Goehring said.

The crunch events can be held anytime through the October 31.
