ND ACLU to host drag show happy hour Friday at Fargo’s Jasper Lounge
FARGO — The American Civil Liberties Union of North Dakota will host a drag show happy hour from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 15, in the Jasper Lounge, 215 Broadway. This event is being held in conjunction with this week’s Fargo-Moorhead
LGBT Film Festival held at the Fargo Theatre
.
The drag show is in reaction to proposed legislation from North Dakota lawmakers that would have banned drag shows in the presence of children or in public places, an announcement from the ACLU stated. The proposed legislation failed.
“We want to take the time to celebrate our right to free speech and free expression,” Cody Schuler, ACLU of North Dakota advocacy manager, stated in the announcement. “But we also want to recognize that we still have work to do as we continue the fight for freedom of gender expression and LGBTQ+ and Two Spirit rights while protecting the civil liberties for North Dakota’s most vulnerable populations.”
