Jimmies women’s volleyball get comfortable sweep over Mount Marty
YANKTON, S.D. — The University of Jamestown pushed their winning streak out to eight matches with a sweep on the road at Mount Marty (25-14, 25-15, 25-16) on Saturday, Sept. 23, at the Lancers’ Laddie E. Cimpl Arena.
The No. 16-ranked Jimmies (13-5, 6-0) opened the first set on a 10-3 run and never looked back from there getting a 25-14 first-set win.
The Lancers (9-10, 2-4) opened the second set better than the first set taking an 11-8 lead but the Jimmies got a kill from Darienne Johnson to cut the deficit to 11-9. That started a 9-0 run from the Jimmies to take a 17-11 lead. The Jimmies did not trail again in the set as they got a 25-15 second set win.
The Jimmies’ Lexi Olson got a kill early in the third set that saw the Jimmies tie the set up at four. In the same way that the Johnson kill started a big run, that kill started an 11-1 run to take a 15-5 lead. Despite the Lancers attempting to fight back by cutting the deficit to 16-10, the Jimmies were able to cruise on their way to a 25-16 third set win.
In total in the three sets, the Jimmies had five separate uninterrupted runs of five points or more.
The Jimmies are back in action at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 29, when they host Doane University.
