Internationally renowned cellist to perform at North Dakota Museum of Art

GRAND FORKS – An internationally renowned cellist, Amit Peled will perform in concert at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 19, as part of the “Concerts in the Galleries” series at the North Dakota Museum of Art on the UND campus.

, are $35 for non-members, $30 for members, and $10 for students and military. Children ages 12 and younger will be admitted at no charge.

The concert, titled “American Landscape: Music for Cello and Piano by American Composers,” will feature works by George Gershwin, Aaron Copland, Victor Herbert, Florence Price and other well-known composers, and a traditional spiritual, “Sometimes I Feel Like a Motherless Child.”

Praised by CityMusic Cleveland as “a musician of profound artistry, and charismatic stage presence, (Peled) is acclaimed worldwide as one of the most exciting and virtuosic instrumentalists on the concert stage today.”

He has performed at many of the world’s most lauded music venues, including Carnegie Hall and Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center in New York, the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C., and Wigmore Hall in London.

Peled, who has released more than a dozen recordings, has been warmly received by audiences during two earlier appearances in Grand Forks, said Jennifer Tarlin, chamber music coordinator for the North Dakota Museum of Art. He is a professor at the Peabody Institute at Johns Hopkins University.

At Sunday’s concert, Peled will be collaborating with Daniel del Pino, one of the leading Spanish concert pianists performing internationally. He has performed at Carnegie Hall and at venues on five continents, Tarlin said. He is the Eva Browning Artist-in-Residence and associate professor of piano at Texas Tech University.

Peled, an Israeli-American, has also been praised for his commitment to music education and has developed award-winning programs for children of all ages. During his visit to Grand Forks, he will participate in an outreach event at Red River High School and will conduct a masterclass for UND music students.

Educational programming in Grand Forks County has been made possible with support from the Neel Family Fund of the Community Foundation of Grand Forks, East Grand Forks and Region. More recently, support from the Gordon and Trudy Iseminger Fund, also an entity of the Community Foundation, has allowed the museum to extend outreach events to additional schools, Tarlin said.
