MANDAN, N.D. — Traffic was backed up for several hours following a fatal head-on crash on Memorial Highway in Mandan on Friday, Oct. 6.

A 37-year-old male from Mandan was driving his Chrysler 300 at 4 p.m. east along the highway when the vehicle veered into westbound traffic, according to a report from the North Dakota Highway Patrol.

The vehicle struck a Dodge Ram, driven by a 56-year-old female from Mandan, that had been heading west. Following the collision, both vehicles came to a stop in the roadway, blocking both westbound lanes, the report said. The crash occurred just east of 32nd Avenue Southeast.

The man in the Chrysler died after being taken via ambulance to the hospital. The driver in the Dodge Ram was transported to the hospital with serious injuries. Both drivers were wearing seat belts, the report added.

The crash remains under investigation.

Our newsroom occasionally reports stories under a byline of “staff.” Often, the “staff” byline is used when rewriting basic news briefs that originate from official sources, such as a city press release about a road closure, and which require little or no reporting. At times, this byline is used when a news story includes numerous authors or when the story is formed by aggregating previously reported news from various sources. If outside sources are used, it is noted within the story.
