Funding given to central North Dakota following severe storm
STUTSMAN COUNTY, N.D. (KFYR) – The Stutsman County Commission and Governor Doug Burgum declared a flood disaster in central North Dakota Wednesday after storms did $30 million in damage. The county received between 125 and 150% of its normal rainfall in June and July.
Emergency Manager Andrew Kirking said the big problem is the washed-out roads. Residents have to take alternate routes, adding a lot of drive time.
“County roads in the western part of the county have been getting beat up, and that is to say nothing to the township roads. The county, we don’t want to spend any more money than we have to. You look at these townships and some of the budgets they have, they just can’t take this kind of a beating,” said Kirking.
Kirking said the disaster declaration from Burgum and The Stutsman County Commission will allow them to use Federal and state funding to fix the roads.
