Clean-up nearly complete following western North Dakota oil, brine spill
BISMARCK — An oil and brine spill that took place over Labor Day weekend has been mostly recovered, a press release from the North Dakota Department of Mineral Resources stated.
The department’s Oil and Gas Division was notified of an oil spill which occurred Saturday, Sept. 2, at the “Pankowski SWD 1 well” in Williams County. On Thursday, Sept. 7, Tallgrass Water North Dakota, which operates the well, reported that 2,490 barrels or brine and 10 barrels of oil were released in the spill. At the time of the report, 2,489 barrels of brine and 9.9 barrels of oil had been recovered.
All of the products released in the spill were contained within the site, the news release stated. A North Dakota oil and gas inspector has visited the site and will track the remediation.
Company officials from Tallgrass Water could not immediately be reached Monday morning.
Our newsroom occasionally reports stories under a byline of “staff.” Often, the “staff” byline is used when rewriting basic news briefs that originate from official sources, such as a city press release about a road closure, and which require little or no reporting. At times, this byline is used when a news story includes numerous authors or when the story is formed by aggregating previously reported news from various sources. If outside sources are used, it is noted within the story.
