14 cattle dead after semitrailer overturns on off-ramp in Jamestown

JAMESTOWN — Fourteen cattle died Thursday, Jan. 12, after a semitrailer overturned on the eastbound on-ramp to Interstate 94 at exit 256 in Jamestown, in response to the North Dakota Freeway Patrol.

Dannie Swartzentruber, 25, Browerville, Minnesota, was driving a Peterbilt semitrailer hauling 127 cattle southbound on the U.S. Freeway 52/281 bypass at about 2 p.m. Thursday. The patrol mentioned Swartzentruber was negotiating a left-hand flip to journey eastbound on I-94.

The patrol mentioned the Peterbilt was touring too quick whereas negotiating the flip, inflicting the cattle to shift contained in the trailer and the semitrailer to tip on its passenger facet. The patrol mentioned the semitrailer got here to relaxation on the eastbound ramp.

The cattle had been transported to the Jamestown Livestock Public sale Co.’s yard with the help of the Jamestown Rural Hearth Division, Southwood Veterinary Clinic and native ranchers.

The patrol mentioned Swartzentruber was not injured and was carrying a seat belt. He was charged with care required.

The Stutsman County Sheriff’s Workplace and the North Dakota Stockmen’s Affiliation additionally assisted on the scene.

The patrol is investigating the crash.
