Sterling, ILL. (KOLN) – Lexi Rodriguez is a star for the Nebraska Volleyball team, but she wasn’t always a household name. The Sterling, Illinois native had humble beginnings as she excelled for the Golden Warriors.

“It’s just Lexi, but when she goes away from here it’s not just Lexi… she’s this big awesome superstar,” Dale Dykeman, Sterling High School Volleyball Coach, said.

The highly-talented Libero won 2 state titles while playing for Sterling High School. Her Coach Dale Dykeman believes it would have been 3 if not for the covid-19 pandemic moving her senior season.

At Nebraska, Rodriguez has been named a 2-time 1st Team All-American and received 1st Team All Big Ten honors in each of her first 3 seasons. She was also named the AVCA Freshman of the year in 2021. With her success on the court, Rodriguez has amassed a big following on social media and with the Husker fanbase. Despite the stardom, Dykeman believes Lexi is truly the same down-to-earth person she was in High School.
