Special Olympics Nebraska hosts first polar plunge in North Platte

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) – Cold crisp winter air, bitterly cold water, and over a foot of snow; a great combination for a polar plunge.

On Saturday, Special Olympics Nebraska hosted their final polar plunge of 2024 in North Platte for the first time. Special Olympics Nebraska has been hosting a series of polar plunges to help raise funds for their Olympic athletes for their spring and fall games.

Special Olympics Nebraska helps provide year-round sports and athletics for children and adults with disabilities. The North Platte fire department, Lincoln County Sheriffs Office, Axes, and Aces, and many others participated. There were fun costumes and themes among those who were brave enough to take the plunge.

Once everyone got off the frigid water and warmed up, it was time to head over to Axes and Aces for a post-plunge party with special plunge drinks and pizza for those that were participated in polar plunge. Many of the people at this year’s plunge, they hope to have way more plungers next year to help out such a great cause.
