Nebraska completes sweep of CofC

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Charleston baseball team hosted Nebraska Sunday afternoon in the finale of a three game set. After taking an early lead, the Cougars were unable to hang on as Nebraska came from behind once again to win 5-3 and sweep the three-game series.

The Cougars got a great start as Trotter Harlan blasted a two-run homer in the first inning. A Kevin Madden RBI single put the Cougs up 3-0 heading into the fourth. That’s when Nebraska got rolling. The Huskers got on the board in the fourth through a Tyler Stone homer. Later in the inning Will Jesske brought in a run with an RBI single. Charleston starter Connor Campbell was able to keep the Cougs in front though, working out of a jam following Jesske’s RBI.

Down 3-2 in the sixth, Nebraska tied things up with another Jesske RBI off Campbell. The game remained tied into the ninth inning when Nebraska took the lead on an error. The Huskers then added on through a another error to make it 5-3. Charleston threatened in the ninth, getting runners on first and second with one down. Nebraska went to the pen for left-hander Kyle Perry to face Sorrentino and Pendergrass. Perry struck out both batter to end the ballgame.

Connor Campbell has another strong outing. His line finished at 5.1 IP, 6 H, 3 ER, 2 BB, 1 K.

Jeb Bradford and Michael Schultz got big outs of of the bullpen, combining for 1.2 IP, 0 H, 2 BB, 1 K.

Trotter Harlan blasted his third homer of the season. He finished 1-for-4 with a run and two RBI.

Cole Mathis finisehd 2-for-4 with a run scored.

Kevin Madden, Avery Neaves, Luke Wood and Tyler Sorrention each had a hit.

Charleston is back in action on Tuesday for a midweek home game with Liberty. First pitch is at 3:00 p.m.
