Man and child killed in crash south of Nebraska City

NEBRASKA CITY, Neb. (KOLN) – A man and a child were killed in a crash that happened south of Nebraska City on Thursday.
The Otoe County Sheriff’s Office, Nemaha County Sheriff’s Office and Nebraska State Patrol, along with Nebraska City Fire and Rescue, responded to an injury crash involving a pickup truck and semi-tractor trailer at 9 p.m.
The crash happened on Highway 75, between County Roads P and Q, south of Nebraska City.
According to the sheriff’s office, a preliminary investigation indicates a pickup truck, driven by 70-year-old Alvin Sobbing of Auburn, was traveling southbound on Highway 75, when it crossed the centerline, colliding head-on with a northbound semi-tractor trailer. Sobbing and his passenger, a 12-year-old boy, died at the scene.
The driver of the semi-tractor, a 39-year-old Texas man, was uninjured.
