Kemp IV ‘so respected,’ making early impression with Huskers
LINCOLN, Neb. (KSNB) – Nebraska football senior wide receiver Billy Kemp IV hasn’t played in a game for the Huskers yet, but is already proving a valuable asset through four practices in preseason camp.
“He’s so super competitive, it’s so important to him, he’s so respected and he doesn’t even really say anything, it’s just how he works and how he competes,” Nebraska offensive coordinator Marcus Satterfield said Thursday. “His leg could be falling off and you’ve got to pull him off the field. He’s one of the most competitive kids I’ve ever been around, so he’s doing a really nice job right now.”
Kemp IV transferred to the Huskers after spending five seasons at Virginia. His goals at Nebraska are simple.
“Prove to the team and to the coaches that I’m there whenever they need me, doing whatever they need me to do,” he said Monday. “Just working hard, attacking every day.”
Nebraska head coach Matt Rhule has also taken notice. He said that younger guys in the receiver room flocked to Kemp IV for advice during the summer and that his personality demands respect.
“He’s an edgy, tough, feisty dude,” Rhule said. “Someone wants to jump me and I see Billy, I’m saying, ‘Hey, Billy, will you help me out?’ He’s a guy I’m taking into a dark alley with me.”
