Colorado road conditions: U.S. 34, Interstate 76 eastbound closed at Nebraska state line as winter storm rolls in

Interstate 76 eastbound and U.S. 34 are closed in northeastern Colorado due to safety concerns, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation. 

U.S. 34 closed in both directions starting at noon, according to the agency. The closure starts at Edmunds Street in Brush and goes to the state line, from mile 173 to mile 259 on the highway.

Eastbound I-76 is closed between U.S. 6 in Sterling to the Nebraska state line east of Julesburg, from mile 125 to mile 184. The highway closed at 1:12 p.m.

Heavy snow is falling in northeastern Colorado, and a winter storm warning is in effect through Friday morning, according to the National Weather Service. Snow accumulation will range from 4 inches to 10 inches or more in some areas.

Snow will continue east of Sterling and Akron through the early afternoon and lighter snow showers are forecast for the Interstate 25 corridor, according to the agency.
