Atlanta Vibe's Banwarth, Beason cherish return to Nebraska
OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – When the Atlanta Vibe traveled to Nebraska to face the Omaha Supernovas in Pro Volleyball Federation regular season action Saturday, it marked another reunion for Kayla Banwarth and Merritt Beason in the state where they played in college.
Beason is a rookie for the Vibe this year and a former All-American opposite for the Huskers. Banwarth played her senior season at Nebraska in 2010 and also spent time as an assistant coach under John Cook.
“It just goes to show how much Nebraska loves their athletes and continue to support them wherever they go in life,” Beason said after a 3-0 Vibe win. “That’s pretty special and pretty hard to find.”
“It’s a testament to the tradition and the history of Nebraska volleyball,” Banwarth added. “Obviously, Merritt is a superstar. She’s a superstar nationwide, but to still have that 15 years later is pretty cool.”
