Severe storms blow through Northeast Missouri, Southeast Iowa

LEE COUNTY, Iowa. (WGEM) – A line of severe storms capable of producing tornados passed through counties in Northeast Missouri and Southeast Iowa Tuesday afternoon.

At 3:39 p.m. the National Weather Service issued a Tornado Warning for Scotland and Clark counties in Missouri. As the storms moved northeast, they also issued Tornado Warnings for Lee County, Iowa, and Hancock County, Illinois.

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office reported at 4:53 p.m. that powerlines were down and semi-trucks had blown over in Houghton, Iowa. Deputies also reported that a grain bin in Houghton had been destroyed.

In Kahoka Missouri, just before 5 p.m., WGEM Viewser reported up to goofball-sized hail.

At 5:28 p.m. the National Weather Service confirmed a funnel cloud in Augusta, Iowa.
