SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) – The Missouri Supreme Court scheduled an execution for a man convicted of killing a Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper in 2005.

The Missouri Supreme Court set an execution date on October 14 for Lance Shockley. A jury found Shockley guilty of first-degree murder in the death of Sgt. Dewayne Graham outside his home in Carter County in March 2005.

Investigators said Shockley killed the trooper because he was investigating him for involuntary manslaughter and leaving the scene of a one-vehicle fatality crash in which the person who died was initially thought to have been the driver.

Shockley lost several appeals on his conviction since the state set his first execution date in 2014.
