Missouri motorcyclist killed in head-on crash after a van experienced equipment failure

ST. CLAIR COUNTY, Mo. (KY3) – A motorcyclist from Nevada, Missouri, has died after a two-vehicle crash near Collins Saturday late afternoon.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol crash report, around 4:40 p.m., a Chrysler Town & Country was driving east on U.S. Highway 54 and started having equipment failure.

The crash happened when the van crossed the center of the highway and hit 63-year-old Jesse Murray head-on. Murray was riding his motorcycle in the westbound lanes of the highway.

Murray was thrown from his motorcycle and died at the scene. The van continued off the road and hit a fence. The two people in the van had minor injuries.

This marks MSHP Troop D’s 76th fatal crash of 2024.
