An Illinois man was arrested in connection to a vehicle pursuit in Mexico, Missouri, early Sunday morning, according to a Facebook post from the Audrain County Sheriff’s Office.
Eric Lewis of Clinton, Illinois, was arrested and charged with aggravated fleeing a stop or detention, operating a motor vehicle in a careless or imprudent manner, failure to yield to an emergency vehicle sounding sirens and displaying red/blue lights and possession of a controlled substance, according to the Facebook post.
At around 1 a.m., a deputy saw a blue Chevrolet Silverado traveling on U.S. 54 at a speed of over 100 miles per hour, according to the sheriff’s office.
The deputy tried to initiate a stop, but Lewis allegedly refused and began fleeing. The pursuit continued on U.S. 54 until entering Mexico city limits. Another deputy then deployed tire deflation devices in the path of the Chevrolet, popping the front and rear tires of the vehicle, according to the Facebook post.
Lewis then surrendered to the deputies without incident, the sheriff’s office said. He is currently being held in Audrian County Jail where he awaits formal filing.
