COLUMBIA − Columbia plow crews will conduct their annual dry snow run training exercise Tuesday starting between 9:30 and 10 a.m.
Public Works street crews, as well as personnel from other departments, will review safety procedures and practice their routes ahead of winter weather.
Throughout the day, Columbia residents may see city snowplow trucks driving their routes.
Columbia has a total of 1,450 lane miles of streets and 1,100 cul-de-sacs. Over 691 lane miles are considered priority routes, which see snowplows first.
When snow accumulations are less than 4 inches, crews focus on priority routes but also go into residential areas during normal business hours if time allows. If accumulations exceed 4 inches, crews will work around-the-clock beginning with priority routes, then they’ll treat all streets until they are at least passable.
