Boys and Girls Club of Southeast Missouri awarded $500k in business tax credits

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KFVS) – A Heartland nonprofit was recently awarded thousands of dollars in business tax credits to help continue supporting the kids in the community.

The Missouri Department of Economic Development’s Neighborhood Assistance Program (NAP) awarded the Boys and Girls Club of Southeast Missouri $500,000 in business tax credits—the maximum amount given out by NAP.

The club’s CEO Matt McDonald says this is a big win for southeast Missouri—instead of paying taxes to the state, businesses can donate to the Boys and Girls Club and the club will then use the money to help under-served youth in the region.

He said this applies to those who pay state business taxes, including business owners, self-employed realtors, farmers and lawyers.

McDonald shared what this award means to him.

“This is the state saying, “We believe in your program, you’re doing good things, we want local businesses to support you, we want you to grow the program and reach more kids in your community.’ So it means a lot to us because we’re trying to rebuild and we want partners, we want groups outside the club to say, ‘How can we help you meet the need for the community,’” McDonald said.
