2 killed in shooting at Minnesota hotel; suspect also dead, police say
CLOQUET, Minn. (KBJR/Gray News) – Authorities in Minnesota say a shooting at a Super 8 hotel left two people dead. The suspected gunman is also dead from what police say was an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Police say an employee at the Super 8 hotel in Cloquet called 911 around 6:30 p.m. Monday, reporting they had found another employee that looked like they had been attacked, KBJR reports.
Police issued an active shooter alert for the area near the hotel about 7 p.m. and ordered residents to shelter-in-place. They announced about 1.5 hours later that the area was secured, and there was no longer an active threat.
Authorities found a 22-year-old woman with a gunshot wound upon arrival at the scene. She was taken to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead. It’s unclear if this was the same person who the 911 caller reported appeared to have been attacked.
As officers investigated, they found a 35-year-old man in a car in the hotel parking lot. He was dead from a gunshot wound, according to police.
Authorities say a 32-year-old man was found dead outside on the hotel property. He had an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound, and a firearm was located next to him.
Officers viewed surveillance video from the hotel and confirmed the 32-year-old man was the shooter.
The identities of the victims and the suspect are not yet being released pending notification of family.
Police say there is no information yet on a motive for the shootings or if there was any connection between the suspect and either of the victims.
Crime scene investigators are actively processing the scene. Police are confident there is no further threat to the public.
Officials say more information will be released Tuesday as it is confirmed.
