The 17-year-old Milwaukee girl shot and killed on Wednesday was identified as Zaniya Booker by the Milwaukee County Medical Examiner’s Office on Thursday afternoon.
Booker died in a shooting at 4466 N. 28th St. at about 4:45 p.m. Police said Thursday they were still investigating the circumstances around the shooting and seeking a suspect.
Journal Sentinel attempts to reach Booker’s family were unsuccessful.

Booker’s death was the city’s fourth reported homicide of 2025, with the number subsequently growing to five so far this year, according to Milwaukee Police Department data. She was the first under the age of 18 to be killed.
