MILWAUKEE — One Milwaukee Police officer is now recovering at home, released from Froedert Hospital after being “ambushed” on June 26 in an alley near 25th and Garfield.

Officer Christopher McCray was one of two officers shots after responding to a call of shots fired after 9:00 p.m. As they approached the alley, they were fired upon and hit without being able to return fire.

Milwaukee Police Association President Alexander Ayala told WTMJ that Officer McCray underwent surgery for his injuries. He has over 6 years of service with the police department.

Milwaukee Police Chief Jeffrey Norman, speaking for the first time since the shooting, said, “the outpouring of support from all our various partners, business community, from our community engagement partners, our different community-based organizations, to our political leaders…. that is important that we hear you, that we see you, we thank you,” says Chief Norman.
