Milwaukee weather forecast predicts a scorching hot weekend
How to stay safe when exercising in the summer heat
Summer is prime time for a lot of outside activities, but when the sun is scorching, it can be dangerous. Here’s how to stay safe.
- Milwaukee’s weekend forecast predicts high temperatures in the mid-90s with a heat index between 100 and 105 degrees.
- An extreme heat watch is in effect for Milwaukee, Racine and Kenosha counties until Monday afternoon.
- Residents are advised to limit time outdoors, stay in the shade and identify cooling shelters.
After a chance of some rain and thunderstorms on Thursday, June 19, and throughout the day on Friday, June 20, it’s going to be a hot weekend in the Milwaukee area.
High temperatures are expected in the mid-90s on Saturday, June 21; Sunday, June 22; and Monday, June 23, according to the National Weather Service in Milwaukee. The nighttime temperatures are only expected to cool down slightly, with predicted lows in the 70s.
The heat index — what the temperature will feel like to the human body when relative humidity is combined with the air temperature — will be between 100 and 105 degrees all three days, the NWS said.
Sarah Marquardt, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Milwaukee, said that southwest winds are bringing an air mass into Wisconsin.
“That’s going to bring very warm and humid temperatures,” she said. “We just put out an extreme heat watch for Milwaukee, Racine and Kenosha counties.”
The extreme heat watch will remain in effect until Monday afternoon.
To stay safe in high temperatures, Marquardt said people should limit time outdoors, stay in the shade and identify cooling shelters.
The heat will stick around through Monday, June 23, along with a 50% chance of thunderstorms, before temperatures cool on Tuesday, June 24, with an expected high of 79 degrees.
There’s a 10% chance of precipitation on the night of Thursday, June 19, and a 20% percent chance between 9 a.m. and noon on Friday, June 20.
