Milwaukee Tool plant bringing over 800 jobs to Grenada as they expand manufacturing across Mississippi

GRENADA, Miss. (WCBI) – Thursday was the official groundbreaking ceremony for the brand new Milwaukee Device facility being in-built Grenada.

Mississippi Lt. Governor Delbert Hosemann, Speaker of the Home Philip Gunn and several other different state officers have been in attendance to have fun the plant and the 800-plus jobs it’s anticipated to deliver.

Whereas the ceremonial shovels went within the dust Thursday morning, development on the brand new Milwaukee Device manufacturing plant has been underway for a few month.

“We’re actually excited to proceed to develop in Mississippi,” says Scott Griswold, President of Energy Device Equipment at Milwaukee Device. “We have been right here for fairly some time, we’ve constructed nice relationships and the state has all the time been there for us, no matter we’d like.”

The 563,000 sq. foot manufacturing facility can be Milwaukee Device’s fourth location in Mississippi.

Matthew Harrison, CEO, President & Government Director of the Higher Grenada Partnership, Higher Grenada Space Chamber of Commerce and Higher Grenada Basis for Financial Growth, says the roles the plant will deliver may result in a minimum of a ten p.c employment enhance in Grenada County.

“You consider the household being two-and-a-half to 3 folks per household, now you’re speaking about impacting a bunch of individuals, 1,600, 1,700, 2,000, 2,500-plus folks,” he says.

Set to open in 2023, Griswold says the manufacturing facility will produce over 100 million of their signature SAWZALL blades every year.

“This can be a very high-tech operation,” Griswold says. “Plenty of automation, loads of new know-how that can be pioneered right here as we go ahead.”

Functioning as a service middle and the manufacturing of energy instrument equipment, Harrison says that Grenada’s infrastructure and concentrate on manufacturing make it an excellent selection.

“You have got an interstate freeway system, 1,175 acres of property, then you’ve got a rail system and an airport system all proper right here,” he says. “The Grenada workforce is about 32 to 34 p.c manufacturing. So we’ve got manufacturing expertise already right here and had it right here for a number of years.”

Lt. Gov. Hosemann says that as Milwauke Device succeeds, so will Mississippi.

“It’s a must to have the folks. It’s a must to have the workforce,” he says. “The state is dedicated to coaching the workforce, you see us working with neighborhood schools. All these issues are lined up right here.”

Harrison hopes different firms will observe Milwaukee Device’s lead.

“The Milwaukee model can be an indication on Interstate 55 that claims Mississippi is a good place for manufacturing and Grenada County is a good place to find,” he says. “That image will herald different alternatives and different firms.”

Milwaukee Device is already accepting job purposes for the manufacturing facility.
