Balanced scoring was the key as the Cleveland State women posted a 64-51 win over Wisconsin Milwaukee on Feb. 17 at the Wolstein Center.

Junior guard Colbi Maples netted a team-high 15 points for CSU as the Vikings upped their records to 23-4 overall and 14-2 in the Horizon League.

The Vikings also got double-figure scoring from sophomore center Jordana Reisma (12 points), senior guard Sara Guerreiro (12 points) and sophomore forward Faith Burch (10 points).

Guerreiro also pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds as the Vikings remained tied with Wisconsin-Green Bay (21-5, 14-2) in the Horizon League standings.

Each team has four remaining regular-season games.

The Vikings needed that balanced output offensively because senior guard Mickyala Perdue, averaging a team-high 16.9 points, had a rare clunker of a game.

Perdue managed only eight points while shooting 3-for-15 overall and 0-for-8 from 3-point range.

“We talk all the time about how we can play many different ways,” CSU coach Chris Kielsmeier said. “This win speaks to our versatility, strength and depth.”

Milwaukee (14-14, 8-9 Horizon) got 11 points from sophomore guard Kamy Peppler.

The Vikings are positioned well to defend the Horizon League regular-season title they won last year.

“It’s right in front us. Now we have to go get it,” Guerreiro said.

CSU next plays Feb. 21 at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis. Tipoff is 7 p.m.
