Southeast Michigan could get clipped by winter storm this weekend
While specific details remain uncertain right now, it’s possible that a heavy, wet snow could move into the southeast part of Michigan this weekend. The most recent forecast data from the North American Model (NAM) suggests the path of a winter storm is expected to stay mainly south of us, but will thrust northeastward and bring some snowy impacts to that bottom area of the state.
The timeframe of this event is expected to be late Saturday into Sunday morning. Precipitation is expected to start off as rain Saturday evening, then switch to snow overnight as temperatures reach the freezing point, then continue through dawn of the next day. The snowfall should end by midday on Sunday.
Accumulation is not expected to be significant due to the nature of this low-pressure system as well as current ground temperatures. Nonetheless, there will be some and it will impact roads and travel for the area.
