There has apparently been a change to the Michigan football roster, and its significance could be major, despite it being a somewhat minor revelation.

Eagle-eyed fans noticed that a Wolverine looking for a breakout season has changed his jersey number. And it’s about the most significant change he could make.

Entering his senior season, and poised for a big year, wide receiver Roman Wilson was set to continue wearing No. 14. However, there has been a stealth edit to the Michigan football roster, and Wilson will now wear the No. 1 jersey that was vacated by Andrel Anthony, who transferred to Oklahoma this offseason.

While it hasn’t been the case in recent memory, the No. 1 jersey on offense has been given to the team’s top receiver, one who is expected to make big, prolific plays. Some have donned the jersey without much experience — Anthony wore it before ever playing a down. But tradition, as an unwritten rule, dictates that players in the upper echelon at the position should be the one to wear the iconic digit.

Will Wilson live up to the hype and have the type of breakout season as Braylon Edwards had? Certainly fans in Ann Arbor hope so.
