Northern Michigan paper mill fire burning for days, help from southeast counties arranged
MENOMINEE, Mich. – Firefighters and tools from Oakland, Macomb, and Livingston Counties are being deployed to a Northern Michigan paper mill fireplace that has been burning for 4 days.
The fireplace started late on Thursday, October 6. Officers say the hearth is anticipated to proceed burning for a number of days.
Chief Brian Ball, the president of the Michigan Mutual Assist Field Alarm System (MABAS), mentioned, “this has been a protracted fireplace that has been tough to totally extinguish.”
To assist, Ball says a ladder truck from Oakland County, a drone from Macomb County, and a ladder truck from Livingston County, have all been despatched to the U.P.
A number of counties within the U.P. are additionally sending assets to help within the firefighting efforts.
In response to a spokesperson from Resolute Forest Merchandise, the hearth began in a warehouse that contained pulp and waste paper.
