Michigan water infrastructure to be upgraded using new $95M grant
LANSING, Mich. (WILX) – A new $95 million state grant is aiming to upgrade infrastructure, ensure healthy drinking water, and protect Michigan’s environment.
The money comes as a result of the MI Clean Water Plan which is backed by Governor Gretchen Whitmer, the Michigan Legislature, and several federal agencies. Its goal is to address issues like aging drinking water, stormwater facilities and the new standards for Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS) “forever chemicals.”
Some specific goals for the grant money include water main replacements in Muskegon Heights, wastewater plant upgrades on Mackinac Island, and lead service line replacements in multiple communities.
