Patrick Mahomes, Chiefs ask for prayers for Kansas City following parade shooting
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Gray News) – Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs are responding to reports about a shooting following the Super Bowl championship parade.
“Praying for Kansas City…” Mahomes wrote on X, followed by three prayer hand emojis.
Several other Chiefs players have made statements on X, asking for prayers for the victims:
Drue Tranquill, linebacker:
“Please join me in prayer for all the victims in this heinous act. Pray that doctors & first responders would have steady hands & that all would experience full healing.”
Justin Reid, safety:
“Praying for everyone in Kansas City at the parade.”
Trey Smith, guard:
“My thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected by today’s incidents—a huge thank you to the first responders who ran towards the sound of danger. You’re the ones who should be celebrated today.”
Donovan Smith, offensive tackle:
“Praying for everyone today in Kansas City.”
Khalen Saunders, defensive tackle:
“Praying for KC. Praying for the ones affected and their families.”
Rick Burkholder, athletic trainer:
“My wife and I along with Coach Reid and his family are safe and on a bus headed to Arrowhead. Thank you to @kcpolice and others.”
Kansas City police reported shots were fired near the garage at Union Station and several people were struck.
Police confirmed at least 1 person is dead and up to 15 are injured.
Two armed people have been taken into custody, according to Kansas City police.
