Kansas trooper struck while working crash prompts safety warning
WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) – The Kansas Highway Patrol is warning drivers to slow down as road conditions deteriorate due to wintry weather conditions.
The warning comes after a trooper was struck in his patrol vehicle on Monday.
The accident happened on I-435 in northeast Kansas, where the trooper was working a crash. The KHP said the trooper was in his patrol car, parked on the right shoulder with emergency lights on, when it was struck by a passing vehicle.
“Slow down and move over for flashing lights, every single time!” said the Kansas Highway Patrol Troop A.
“This could have ended much worse. Do your part, slow down and move over. Give first responders the space they need to stay safe.”
The trooper only suffered minor injuries. He has since been treated and released back to full duty.
