BLUE SPRINGS, Mo. (KCTV) – Over 30 years ago, Kevin Costner helped deliver the line, “if you build it, they will come.” The Kansas City Royals have taken that advice, helping rebuild dozens of ball fields across the metro.

Blue Springs is the latest spot to get a new field, with a complete makeover.

The field getting a remodel is designed for tee ball players, ages four to six. Blue Springs Baseball president, Casey McGinnis said the field sat with brush, trees and weeds for years before finally getting a renovation.

The new field is one of several across the metro that received a portion of the Royals Foundation field grants. Collectively the grants total $175,000, helping out fields that once looked impossible to fix.

McGinnis said the new-look field will help grow the game and introduce young ones to baseball.

“We as a league have been here for over 60 years and it’s so kids can learn the sport,” McGinnis said. “We want them to enjoy the sport and learn about baseball.”

The Royals Foundation is still accepting applications to fix up more fields across the metro. You can find more information here: https://www.mlb.com/royals/community/foundation/grants/royalty-fields-program.
