Jan. 5 weather blog: School closings rolling in across the Wichita area, USD 259 in session
WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) – The City of Wichita said its snow plows, with names such as “Snow Diggity,” “Plower Ranger,” and “Peppy La Plow,” were treating roads throughout the night to ensure the safest possible road conditions. You can follow the city’s snow plows here.
AAA Kansas said “all hands are on deck” for roadside crews helping drivers who have slid off the roads and to plow the streets.
We talked with the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Department about road conditions in south central Kansas and what you can expect on your morning drive.
Wichita Public Schools has announced its schools are in session on Friday. District spokesperson Susan Arensman said the decision was made to proceed with the school day at 4:30 a.m.
Kansas Department of Transportation SW Kansas public affairs manager Yazmin Moreno joined 12 News This Morning to give an update on road conditions in her part of the state.
School closings have begun across the Wichita area.
As of just after 6 a.m. Friday, Maize, Newton, Mulvane, Cheney, Buhler, Goddard, Valley Center, Circle, Hutchinson and El Dorado have closed Friday. Wichita Public Schools have not announced closure.
Other schools across the state are closed or delayed.
