Kansas made short work of the Bison by hitting 60.4 percent of its shots and getting five-plus points from nine players, topped by guard Zeke Mayo’s 19 points off the bench.
The Tar Heels were also victorious in their opener over Elon (90-76), but needed a closing fury to avoid a potential upset. The Phoenix held a 71-69 lead with 6:48 remaining, but RJ Davis and Carolina closed out the contest with a 21-5 run to move past their in-game struggles.
