Charges filed against Kansas City man accused of rape in Zona Rosa parking lot
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – Sexual assault charges have been filed against a Kansas City man in connection to an incident in the Zona Rosa parking lot nearly a year beforehand.
Platte County, Missouri, Circuit Court records filed on Tuesday, Nov. 26, indicate that Adrian L. Horton, 20, of Kansas City, has been charged with rape in connection to a sexual assault at Zona Rosa.
A probable cause statement filed by the Kansas City, Missouri, Police Department revealed that on Dec. 6, 2023, first responders were called to the East Patrol Division at 2460 Prospect Ave. with reports of a victim who reported a sexual assault that occurred the day before.
During the victim’s statements to police, she reported Horton, who she had known beforehand, had picked her up to go for a drive. The pair had established boundaries that no sexual contact would happen before they took off toward Zona Rosa.
Once Horton parked his vehicle near the Dillard’s parking garage, law enforcement officials said he attempted to get physical with the victim. When she denied him, Horton began to choke her and sexually assaulted her.
Investigators noted that after the assault, Horton drove the victim back to her house. She later sought medical treatment and a sexual assault examination kit. Horton’s DNA was recovered by police through a search warrant and tested against the sexual assault kit. The results showed Horton was most likely the perpetrator.
As a result, a warrant was issued for Horton’s arrest on Tuesday with the condition of a cash-only $30,000 bond. He has been charged with rape in the second degree.
As of Saturday, Nov. 30, Horton does not appear to be behind bars. No further information has been released.
