28 years since ‘October Surprise’ hit Kansas City

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – One of the biggest snowstorms to hit the Kansas City area happened 28 years ago Tuesday.

The “October Surprise” dropped 6.5′’ of snow, knocking down trees and causing many in the metro to lose electricity for days.

Since 1888, Kansas City has only had 20 dates with measured snowfall between 6.1′’ to 7′’.
