‘This has been really great for us’: Restaurants see more people thanks to Iowa women’s basketball
IOWA CITY, Iowa (KCRG) – Eastern Iowa restaurants say more people are going out to watch the team Iowa women’s basketball play than ever before.
People packed into restaurants like Micky’s Irish Pub in downtown Iowa City to watch Iowa’s win against Ohio State.
Staff say they’ve been busy for every game this season with similar sizes to home football games.
One manager, Parker McNally, said these crowds make a real impact during an otherwise quiet time.
“This has been really great for us because a lot of times during these winter months we start to slow down which can be a nice break but at the same time we’re a business at the end of the day so its a big thing to stay busy,” said McNally.
Even with multiple seniors leaving the team, McNally says he still expects more people to come watch them play for years to come.
Along with Hawkeye fans, McNally, said they often have visiting fans from opposing schools stop by.
This is something he says they didn’t have before for women’s basketball games.
