Things are a-changing at the University of Iowa. While not quite as groundbreaking as Gary Barta’s retirement opening up the athletics director position, Iowa women’s basketball will have a new coach in 2023.
Iowa announced on Wednesday that they would be adding former player Tania Davis to Lisa Bluder’s coaching staff. The move comes after Kathryn Reynolds procured a role as the President/Commissioner of Northwoods League Softball. Reynolds was on the Iowa coaching staff for the past six years.
Davis returns to Iowa just a few short years after her playing career and fresh off a stint as a grad assistant and as an assistant coach. She had an extremely successful career in Iowa City, amassing over 1,000 points and taking part in an Elite Eight run.
It’s a hiring that has many around the Hawkeyes’ program extremely excited. Take a look at Iowa women’s basketball’s newest staff member, Tania Davis.

Tania Davis is a name many will recognize in Iowa City. Davis was a four-year starter for the Hawkeyes just a few years ago. Davis became the 36th Hawkeye to reach 1,000 points. She was a Big Ten honorable mention selection in 2019 and was on the Big Ten All-Freshman Team in 2016.

Davis spent the last two seasons as an assistant coach for Omaha women’s basketball. While with Omaha, the program won 22 games and advanced to the Summit League Championship game this past spring after being picked to finish last in the conference.

Prior to joining Omaha as an assistant coach, Davis spent two years as a grad assistant at Clemson University. As a grad assistant, Davis oversaw the team managers, while assisting with individual workout plans, recruiting visits, and film breakdown.

“I am absolutely thrilled to welcome Tania Davis back to Iowa City. Tania was a tremendous player who has now gained great coaching experience. It is so exciting to know she will now impact our program once again as our Director of Player Development. She will be a pivotal piece in our day-to-day operation, mainly working with our players to assist them in becoming strong leaders and role models in the community,” Bluder said of Davis’ return.
