Several Eastern Iowa towns without power after car accident

LINN COUNTY, Iowa (KCRG) – The Linn County Sheriff’s Department says a car accident led to power outages in several communities late Saturday night.

The Sheriff’s department says a white Chrysler Town and Country minivan was traveling north on Troy Mills Rd just before 10pm when the driver, 40-year old Jillian Whitaker of Coggon, fell asleep at the wheel. The driver wasn’t able to traverse a curve in the road and the vehicle left the roadway northbound into an Alliant Energy power pole before rolling over and coming to a stop.

The driver and passenger, 41-year old Gregory Whitaker of Coggon, were taken to St. Luke’s hospital and treated for minor injuries.

Both the diver and passenger were wearing ther seatbelts, and the driver was cited for Failure to maintain control.

An outage map from East-Central Iowa REC shows 463 outages started at 9:55pm, and impacted areas around Urbana.

Alliant Energy’s power outage map is currently down, and not showing outages in the area.
