No injuries after semi collides with Iowa deputy’s vehicle

CRAWFORD COUNTY, Iowa (KTIV) – Monday night, authorities say a semi in northwest Iowa t-boned a pickup belonging to a local sheriff’s office.

The Iowa State Patrol says the crash happened at about 8:30 p.m. on Dec. 11 near the intersection of Highway 59 and U Ave in Crawford County. The intersection is located several miles south of Denison.

According to ISP’s crash report, a semi going southbound on Hwy 59 collided with a pickup parked across the highway. The pickup belonged to the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office and the ISP says the vehicle had its emergency lights on when the crash happened. After the crash, the semi went off the road and into a ditch.

Two people were inside the semi at the time of the crash, the ISP identifies the driver as 51-year-old Barry Ostrom of Cassopolism Michigan, but has not identified the passenger. Authorities say neither of them were injured.

The ISP says no one was in the pickup during the crash.

Ostrom was cited with failure to stop at an assured clear distance.

The crash report does not go into detail on why the semi collided with the pickup or why the pickup was parked across the road. The report does say Ostrom was not distracted and that no environmental conditions contributed to the crash.
